National Award winning actor and Tamil film icon Kamal Hassan, who celebrated his 50th year in cinema last year, turned 56 today. The actor, who secured his first National Film Award in 1982 for his role in ''Moondram Pirai'', will spend big day doing his bit for charity.
According to sources close to the actor''s family, as part of the birth day celebration the Padmashree awardee would present various articles to people, including a laptop to students, uniforms to autorickshaw drivers and tailoring machines to the poor. The actor will also give an award to the best district wing of his fan club on the occasion, they said.
He is turning a lyricist and singer in this film, which also features Trisha, Madhavan, Ramesh Arvind in the key roles.

Amitabh Bachchan says an unknown person has been sending derogatory and abusive material on his blog and mobile phone. After enduring it for months, he has filed a police complaint.
"There is a serious effort by a member that writes and comments on this blog to use language and expression that is abusive, filthy and utterly disgusting," Big B wrote on his bigb.bigadda.com.
"I have brought this to the notice of the authorities and (sought) corrective measures to see none of the stuff that comes from this foul mouthed individual shall ever be allowed on this platform. Any further attempt from this person shall now be under legal cyber space action, now very prominently activated in the country.
"This blog, this platform, this home for our extended family members is a sacred and revered destination and any attempt to defile it shall be dealt with in the most severe manner," he added.
Amitabh further revealed he is also receiving derogatory messages on his phone.
"Further more. This individual has been sending me the most unprintable abuse on SMS on my phone. I have, after great tolerance for months, reported the matter to the police and they will be taking serious punitive action, not just in my country but in the country of the origin of these missives."

Born on April 18, 1956 in Kanpur, India, Cusp-born Poonam Dhillon is one of three children of former Aeronautics Engineer, Amrik Singh, and mom, Gurcharan Kaur. She has a brother, and a sister, Dr. Rishma Pai, who has a medical practice in Bombay. She studied in Carmel Convent High School in Chandigarh.
Poonam became popular after attaining the Miss India '77 Crown. This opened doors for modeling as well as her pretty face being splashed on magazine covers, and also landed her a role in 'Trishul', which was a hit at the box office, with the song pictured on her 'Gapuchi Gapuchi gam gam' continuing to be popular even today.
Then came 'Noorie' in 1979, which made a star overnight.
Subsequent releases 'Kaala Patthar', 'Dard', 'Red Rose', 'Biwi O Biwi', 'Yeh To Kamaal Ho Gaya', 'Teri Meharbaniya', 'Karma', 'Ek Chhadar Mailisi', 'Batwara', 'Kasam', 'Sohni Mahiwal', 'Laila' opposite Bollywood bigwigs such as Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Randhir Kapoor, Kamal Hassan, Jackie Shroff, Anil Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, Sunny Deol, amongst others added to her fame. She is friendly with Bollywood actresses Padmini Kolhapure, and Rati Agnihotri.
She is involved as a host in Zee TV Africa's 'Chusth Dhrusth' show, acts in a Zee TV serial 'Kitty Party'. She had won an award for her role in the Hindi play 'The Perfect Husband' in 2005. She was also part of the Indian political scene in 2004 when she briefly joined the Congress party.
She is also associated with Zeenext.com as a Consulting Editor; was responsible for pioneering the makeup van business.
